Lip Fillers (Lip Enhancement) - Dermal Filler Treatment

In the hands of highly-skilled, highly-experienced cosmetic injectors lips can be enhanced and rejuvenated beautifully and subtly, balancing and harmonising the lips with the face, and ensuring you look great from all angles. Cosmetic dermal filler injections treatments can help increase the size, shape and dimension of your lips to enhance the symmetry and balance of your appearance. Treatments take less than 30 mins and provides immediate results. Lip injections are suitable for women over the ages of 18, and even with parental consent under 18 year olds will not be able to receive treatment.

As we age, lips naturally lose volume and plumpness. This is due to the overall decrease in collagen and elastin that occurs as we age. These are the proteins in our skin which provide structure, support and elasticity. Coupled with a natural change in the shape of the lips as we age, means that our lips get thinner and smaller as we get older.

Lip filler enhancement doesn't have any down time. Injections are made using ultra-thin needles, with the help of a local anaesthetic to help patients feel more comfortable. Following the procedure, there may be some swelling or bruising near the treatment site, but this should dissipate quickly. Results of the lip augmentation procedure are typically immediately noticeable. Depending on which type of injection is used, results can last anywhere from three to twelve months, possibly even longer with occasional touch-up procedures to ensure lips have volume and plump shape.

Lip augmentation treatments are specially designed to create the beautiful looking lips that you desire. Natural looking lips with dermal filler

When lip fillers are performed correctly, they look natural. Professionally injected lips provide fullness and structure to correct, balance and enhance your facial features. Famous celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Kylie Jenner have used injectable fillers for years and have created the desired look many females aspired to.

Post lip filler regime?

Immediately post your treatment, you can go about your normal day.

A common post-treatment maintenance regime includes:

  • ice packs to help to reduce swelling (although this is generally not required);
  • arnica (a homeopathic remedy) cream or tablets are sometimes recommended a few days before and a few days after treatment as there is some evidence that this can reduce bruising.
  • the use of painkillers such as paracetamol, is often not required but may be used if needed for a few days after treatment;

Bruising and all swelling should go down after a few days but can persist for a week, always speak to your cosmetic injector if you have any concerns.

Some noticeable reactions can develop post treatment such as lumpy and unevenness across both the top and bottom lips and/or redness, this is normally and will subside within a few days.

Information on side effects and risks of lip fillers?

A common question people have about lip filler relates to safety. The immediate and most common side effect is slight bleeding after the needle has been inserted into the skin. A common risks include bruising, tenderness, redness and swelling around the lips. These signs may take 2-3 days to vanish completely, especially around the lips where there is little flesh and skin is tender.

In rare, allergic type reactions can occur after a filler treatment. These include prolonged redness, swelling, itching and/or hardness and bumps in the skin. Such signs may appear at some or all injection points. Sometimes, they can last several months or longer, but this is extremely unusual.

Another rare side effect is called an occlusion. This is where filler is accidentally injected into a blood vessel, creating a blockage. This presents as whitening of the skin, followed by the area turning greyish-purple. If left untreated, this can result in tissue loss in the affected area.

If you have a known allergy to dermal fillers or any of the ingredients in the filler product, you must inform your cosmetic injector as you most likely would not be a suitable candidate for treatment.

Typically no sensation is felt during a lip filler because we use a topical medical grade numbing agent as well as a numbing agent within the injected product.

Results from lip injections are long-lasting, ranging 4-12 months.  Once your lip goals are achieved, you may return for top-up treatments as needed.

Can you have lip filler if you're pregnant?

Dermal fillers have not been tested on pregnant women. No cosmetic injector would carry out a filler treatment on a pregnant woman.

Can you have lip filler if your breastfeeding?

The short answer is NO.

Ladies who are breastfeeding should not have any lip fillers treatments. The reason for this comes back to the fact that a female body has many changing hormones during her pregnancy and breastfeeding periods and filler outcomes and longevity could be affected. There is no studies available which proves it is safe whilst breastfeeding. It is important to prioritise the health and safety of the baby and recommended to avoid lip fillers until the breastfeeding has been completed.
